Everyone needs EASY AIR in their homes for winter!

Easy Air is a blend of key respiratory and immune-supportive oils that open and soothe tissues of the respiratory tract, support clear breathing, relax bronchial smooth muscles, combat airborne bacteria and viruses and support immunity.

Do your kids suffer from croup? Diffuse a few drops of Easy Air in their room and they will sleep peacefully. Don’t think this is just good for children either, because this amazing blend will help clear up any congestion for adults too. I even have a few people tell me that using one drop of Easy Air (diluted with coconut oil) on their partner’s cheek has stopped the snoring!

Easy Air is the natural alternative to Vicks. If you have Vicks VapoRub in your medicine cabinet and are using it on a baby under 2 you may want to reconsider, as it contains active ingredients, Camphor (which is highly toxic if ingested, especially for infants) and Menthol (which is what causes the airway inflammation) in it and studies show that using the ointment to ease coughing and congestion in children of this age (under 2) might lead to severe breathing problems by increasing mucus production and inflammation. (source) If you have been using Vicks BabyBalsam be aware that the main ingredient is Petrolatum – a petroleum product that runs the risk of being contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a highly toxic compound which is linked to cancer, development and reproductive toxicity and immunotoxicity. (source) Don’t stress if you’ve already used Vicks, but now that you know, look for natural alternatives, question everything and READ labels.

Taking the natural route and going DIY is simple, cheaper and more effective than using synthetic and even dangerous ingredients. Below are a couple of quick and easy recipes on how you can make your own vapour rub, without all the nasties.

See the dilution guide here.

DIY Easy Air Chest Rub 1% dilution

This dilution is the recommended starting point for kids 1-5. However, it is appropriate to go up to 3% for short periods of time as needed.

  • 30 grams coconut oil (not fractionated).
  • 6 drops doTERRA Easy Air.
  • 3 drops doTERRA Lavender (optional).

DIY Easy Air Chest Rub 2-3% dilution

This dilution is the recommended starting point for kids aged 6-12. However, it is appropriate to go up to 6% for short periods of time as needed.

  • 30 grams coconut oil (not fractionated).
  • 18 – 24 drops doTERRA Easy Air.
  • 3 drops doTERRA Lavender (optional).

DIY Easy Air Chest Rub 6% dilution

This is the strongest dilution suggested for kids aged 6-12.

  • 30 grams coconut oil (not fractionated).
  • 30 drops doTERRA Easy Air.
  • 6 drops doTERRA Lavender (optional).
  1. Melt the coconut oil and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes or until lukewarm (you still want it to be liquid).
  2. Once cooled, add in essential oils and stir until combined. It is important to allow the mixture to cool before adding the essential oils so that the therapeutic qualities of the oils are not destroyed by the heat.
  3. Pour the oil blend into a sterilised jar.
  4. Allow to cool completely (you may need to cool in the fridge). The coconut oil will set and then you will have a DIY Vicks alternative that is safe and effective for your children.

Easy Air Roller Remedy

  • 3 drops of doTERRA Easy Air (increase to up to 6 drops for children older than 6 years). Again, if using it only for a short time you can increase the dilution.
  • 1 drop doTERRA Lavender for it’s anti-allergic and calming properties (optional).
  • Fill the rest of the 10ml bottle with a carrier oil (I like to use fractionated coconut oil).
  • Give the bottle a shake before each use and apply. For babies apply to their feet and continue to apply several times through the day and before bed. Children – apply to chest, back and soles of feet.
  • Please refer to the dilution guide to find out how many drops you need to make this recipe.

Snoring? Put a drop of Easy Air on the filter of the CPAP machine for even more support during the night.  Even without a CPAP machine, it’s good to keep a roller bottle of Easy Air nearby to roll on the cheek of whoever is keeping you awake by snoring.

Diffusing doTERRA Easy Air

  • For babies and toddlers, 1 – 2 drops per 150mls.
  • Set up your essential oil diffuser across the room from where the children sleep.
  • If the room is small, diffuse with the door open to allow fresh air flow.
  • I recommend using an ultrasonic diffuser that runs intermittently around babies and toddlers. Using a diffuser that runs intermittently is a great way to set it up in the kids’ bedroom overnight and not have to worry about it. You can purchase diffusers here.

Remember, newborns and babies only need small amounts of essential oil to enjoy their benefits. Too much essential oil can be harmful.

So there you have it, a few recipes that should help out the whole family when they are feeling under the weather.
